Aus Ships Group is proud to announce the design and construction of Australia’s first fully electric Domestic Commercial Vessel (DCV). This pioneering project is a collaboration between Aus Ships Group and the Australian Federal Government and marks a significant step forward in sustainable maritime transport.
The vessel, purpose-built as a commuter ferry, is attracting interest from operators across the country. Before its official deployment, the vessel will tour multiple regions to demonstrate its capabilities, showcasing the potential of zero-emission ferry operations in Australia.
The pilot vessel is expected to pave the way for future production of similar environmentally friendly vessels, both for national and international markets. It will be constructed and surveyed to full Lloyd’s Classification standards, ensuring the highest levels of safety, reliability, and performance.
Environmental sustainability is central to the project. The vessel will be built using low-carbon aluminum sourced from Australia and Europe, and the shipyard in Brisbane will utilise power generated from an on-site solar array during construction. Aus Ships Group is actively seeking input from partners and suppliers regarding environmental policies, sustainability practices, and eco-friendly manufacturing processes, ensuring that this project reflects best-in-class sustainable practices.
As Australia’s maritime industry moves toward greener operations, Aus Ships Group’s fully electric DCV represents a landmark achievement in reducing CO₂ emissions while advancing innovative vessel design.
