Coming out of the very successful Australian Commercial Marine Conference in Sydney on 29 July, these two slides (below) in the presentation by David Good, CEO of AIMEX, Superyacht Australia and the Australian Commercial Marine Group, highlighted the findings of a commissioned independent study into the economic contribution of Australia’s commercial marine industry.
The findings provide a powerful reminder of just how significant the commercial maritime sector is to the Australian economy.
From water transport, aquaculture, naval architecture, shipbuilding, tourism, professional and scientific services, regulation and the extensive local supply chain that supports these activities, the industry generates substantial economic activity and employment across Australia.
Commercial marine supports a broad network of Australian manufacturers, fabricators, engineers, tradespeople, professional services, technology providers and specialist suppliers.
For companies like Aus Ships Group, these findings reinforce the importance of continuing to invest in Australian maritime capability, developing skilled local jobs and supporting Australian businesses wherever possible.
The commercial marine industry is building capability, supporting regional economies, creating skilled employment and contributing to Australia’s broader economic resilience.
The data presented at the conference clearly demonstrates that commercial maritime is an important contributor to the Australian economy, and there is a significant opportunity to build on this contribution through continued investment, innovation and collaboration across industry and government.
It is great to see the economic contribution of our industry being quantified and recognised.
