On 6 August, Aus Ships Group welcomed members of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) Board and senior executives to its Wyuna Court facility in Brisbane for a behind-the-scenes look at the company’s latest vessel development and maritime innovation.
The visit provided an opportunity for AMSA representatives to tour the Aus Ships Group facility and gain first-hand insight into the design, engineering and construction processes behind some of Australia’s newest commercial vessels.
Aus Ships Group Director Tommy Ericson delivered a presentation on the company’s fully assessable Domestic Commercial Electric Ferry, highlighting the innovative technologies, engineering challenges and regulatory considerations involved in developing Australia’s first fully assessable electric domestic commercial ferry.
Following the presentation, the AMSA delegation was taken through the electric ferry currently under construction, providing an opportunity to see the project’s design and technology in detail and discuss the practical challenges associated with introducing electric propulsion into the domestic commercial vessel sector.
The delegation also viewed Aus Ships Group’s newly developed 7.7-metre Response RIB, “Defiance”. Designed and built in-house, Defiance represents another example of the company’s focus on developing highly capable Australian-designed vessels for specialised commercial and response applications.
The visit highlighted the importance of collaboration between industry and regulators as Australia’s maritime sector continues to adopt new technologies, including electric propulsion and advanced vessel designs.
