AUS SHIPS DELIVERS 9th and 10th FINAL GEN 4 CITYCAT, MARKING MILESTONE IN BRISBANE RIVER TRANSPORT

Aus Ships is delighted to share the successful delivery of the 9th and 10th and final Gen 4 CityCat vessel to Brisbane City Council, completing a remarkable seven-year production journey that began in 2018.

This final handover, occurring in November 2025, marks the culmination of a major public transport investment—modernising river travel while showcasing local innovation, skilled trades, and sustainable maritime design.

A Legacy of Innovation and Craftsmanship

Across the 10 vessels, Aus Ships has dedicated:

  • 143,702 production hours
  • The 1st generation of city cat ever designed & built for Brisbane, by Brisbane, in Brisbane

  • 10% of construction time by apprentices
  • 10,000 hours of design & engineering (equivalent to 5 years of work for 1 person)
  • 30 local suppliers have supported the project

  • 180 tonnes of recyclable aluminium used in the construction
  • 1,800km of welding wire use in the construction

Each Gen 4 CityCat contains approximately 14 tonnes of aluminium, forming the sleek, lightweight hulls that are now a familiar sight on the Brisbane River.

This project has not only delivered modern, efficient vessels but also significantly contributed to local employment and training. Apprentices played a hands-on role in production, gaining experience on one of Queensland’s most iconic marine infrastructure programs.

Aus Ships is proud to contribute to Brisbane’s transport future with vessels that are designed and built right here in Queensland.
